Help & Info
Answers to the questions we hear most — from first visit nerves to membership details. Search below or browse by category.
First Visit
Absolutely — most of our clients start with zero prior experience, and that's exactly what our beginner classes are designed for. You'll be in a small group with an instructor who walks you through every movement. You don't need to be fit, flexible, or "ready" to start.
If you'd like extra guidance on your first session, we recommend booking a private introduction — an hour with an instructor who will assess your posture, walk you through the reformer, and help you find the right class level.
Comfortable, fitted clothing works best — leggings or shorts and a close-fitting top. Avoid anything too loose, since instructors need to see your alignment and the reformer carriage can catch on fabric.
Bring:
We provide all mats, props, and equipment. No need to bring anything else.
For your first class, please arrive 10 minutes early so we can give you a proper introduction to the studio, the reformer, and the equipment. For subsequent classes, 5 minutes is plenty.
If you're running late, that's okay — just let us know. But please note that for safety reasons, we can't admit you to a class more than 10 minutes after it has started.
Classes
Reformer uses a spring-loaded carriage that adds resistance and instability — challenging your core, alignment, and control in ways mat work can't replicate. It's our most popular offering.
Mat is classical floorwork using just your bodyweight and small props. It's a great foundation and transfers beautifully into everyday movement. Many clients do both — mat builds body awareness, reformer builds strength and precision.
If you're new and unsure where to start, read our guide or ask us for a recommendation.
Our group classes cap at 6 people for Reformer and 8 people for Mat. This is smaller than most studios by design — it lets us correct alignment, adjust your movement in real time, and give each person proper attention.
Many instructors also offer semi-private sessions (2–3 people) if you'd like to train with a friend or partner.
Two sessions per week is where most clients start noticing real change — better posture, less tension, more energy. One session per week still helps, but progress is slower.
That said, consistency matters more than frequency. Two sessions a week for three months will do far more for your body than five sessions a week for three weeks. Pilates is a practice — the results compound.
Membership
Yes. All memberships can be paused for up to 6 weeks per year (for travel, injury, or life), or cancelled with 30 days' notice. No cancellation fees, no awkward conversations.
If you're pausing for injury or medical reasons, we can extend this beyond 6 weeks — just get in touch.
We offer 30% off your first month on any membership tier, so you can try the studio properly before committing. We also offer 5-class and 10-class packages for those who prefer pay-as-you-go.
Book a first session and we'll talk through the options that fit you best — no pressure.
We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a class. Cancellations within 24 hours are charged as a full session, since the spot is difficult to fill at short notice.
Unlimited members get one grace cancellation per month, in case something unexpected comes up. We're human about it — just let us know.
Instructors
Every RFRM/OUT instructor is comprehensively certified — our minimum standard is a fully accredited Reformer certification (BASI, Polestar, or equivalent), plus ongoing education every year.
Our team brings additional specialisms including prenatal & postnatal, rehabilitation, athletic performance, and scoliosis. We don't hire part-time weekend instructors — everyone you meet teaches at RFRM/OUT as a career, not a side hustle.
Yes — for private coaching and semi-privates, you'll always work with the same instructor. For group classes, you can book specifically into an instructor's class through our schedule.
Many of our long-term clients train with two or three different instructors to get varied perspectives on their practice — but it's entirely your choice.
Prenatal & Rehab
Yes, when taught by an experienced prenatal instructor — and Pilates is one of the most recommended forms of movement during pregnancy. Our prenatal classes are specifically programmed for each trimester, working with (not against) the changes your body is going through.
If you're pregnant and new to Pilates, we recommend booking a private introduction so we can assess your starting point. If you already practice, we'll help you adapt your existing routine safely.
Very often, yes — but it depends on the injury. Pilates is excellent for chronic back pain, postural issues, and many post-surgical recoveries, but it isn't a substitute for physiotherapy or medical advice.
We work closely with local physiotherapists and can support a rehab programme alongside your existing treatment. Please tell us about any injuries or conditions when you book, so we can recommend the right instructor and class.
Practical
We're at Mercer Street, Preston, PR1 4LZ — a short walk from Preston city centre. Free on-site parking is available for members, and there's additional street parking nearby.
We have changing rooms and lockers, but no showers on site. Most clients come dressed for class and head straight home or back to work afterward. We do have a mirror and a seating area if you'd like a moment to freshen up.
Yes — gift vouchers are available for single classes, class packages, and full memberships. They make a genuinely lovely gift for birthdays, new mums, or anyone who could use an hour a week that's just for them.
Get in touch or ask at the studio to purchase one.
